We have found that many cases of severe keloid are associated with high blood pressure (hypertension). Thus, we studied the relationship between keloid and hypertension statistically. One hundred cases of keloid that were treated by surgery in our hospital from January to December in 2011 were examined for complication of hypertension. The relationship between hypertension and the number or the size of keloids was studied statistically. Based on the results, it was suggest that 1. hypertension makes keloids larger, 2. hypertension increases the number of keloids, and 3. association of keloid and hypertension is increased by aging. This raised the possibility that 1. hypertension could adversely affect keloid tissues physiologically such as elevation of tissue pressure or capillary growth, or 2. the mechanisms whereby keloids and hypertension develop may have some similarities. |
