The stabilization of wounds and scars is important for the prevention and treatment of heavy scarring. In this paper, we analyzed our cases that were treated using silicone tapes (MepitacR manufactured by Molnlycke Health Care Co., Ltd.) for scar management after scar surgery. A total of 12 cases of keloids and hypertrophic scars were involved in this study. All of the cases had experienced epidermal injury caused by surgical tapes previously, thus instead of surgical tapes silicone tapes were used. Complications and recurrence of scars caused by the silicone tapes were analyzed. The tapes were more expensive than surgical tapes, but there was no case of contact dermatitis, epidermal injury or recurrence of scars. It was suggested that not only wound stabilization but also moisturizing is important for scar management and that silicone tapes are ideal for scar management.
