There are few epidemiologic investigations on keloids in the world. It
is well known that there is a racial difference in the incidence, and
sometimes keloids are inherited. Moreover, it has been suggested that
there is some kind of relationship between allergic / autoimmune
diseases and keloids. What is more, there are hypotheses such as keloid
patients have a low risk of developing cancer, and
schizophrenia patients have a low risk of developing keloids. These
interesting hypotheses may be verified in large / world wide
epidemiologic investigations on keloids.
